Anything uptown and urban in real estate is Jack Gosnell’s forte. Jack is a Senior Vice President with CBRE Urban in Dallas. His arrival prompted the development of the company’s Urban division – formed to pursue redevelopment for mixed-use projects in Dallas’ urban core. Since then, the team has leased more ground floor space in Downtown Dallas than all Dallas commercial firms combined.

Jack’s principal focus is on adaptive re-use and redevelopment of urban cores. He is active in the redevelopment of Downtown Dallas having chaired the Retail Recruitment Committee for Downtown Dallas, Inc. (DDI) and is working on a leasing plan for the Specialty Retail District in Downtown Dallas. He was instrumental during the creation of Uptown as a recognized neighborhood and district and provided valuable input on the marketing and branding of the area. Additionally, Jack has been the exclusive leasing agent for Dallas’ iconic building, The Crescent, for many years and through the building’s most recent renovation.

In 2017, CBRE awarded Jack the Krista Haverly Spirit Award, which is given to a retail professional who exudes energy, creativity, enthusiasm, and an unwavering passion for the retail business. And, in 2015, Jack received the Stemmons Service Award, the highest award and honor given in the commercial real estate industry in Dallas by The North Texas Commercial Association of Realtors (NTCAR). He was named a D Magazine Broker of the Year in 2014.

Jack’s current and past projects include The Cedars, the Headington portfolio, 23Springs, Atelier, ATT’s International HQ, The Union, The Epic, and The Adolphus Hotel.  Jack also devoted many years to the privatization of Dallas’ Farmers Market area, including leasing the Market, the neighborhood’s 26,000 SF food hall. He has worked with ownership groups such as RED Development, Rockbridge Capital, ZOM, PegasusAblon, ICI Investments, University of North Texas, Cawley Partners, Forest City, Stoneleigh Companies, Headington Companies and Granite Properties.

He has had the pleasure of working with numerous popular restaurateurs including 8.0 Bar, Meddlesome Moth, Taverna and other Lombardi family concepts, The Common Table, Asian Mint, The Knox Street Pub, Iron Cactus, Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille, Wild Salsa, Capital Grille, Dallas Chop House, Ocean Prime, Pho Colonial, Ascension Coffee, Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse, Katy Trail Ice House, Shake Shack, The Rustic, Mutts Cantina, Mesero, Moxie, Adelmo’s, Le Bilboquet, STK Dallas and Georgie by Curtis Stone.

Jack joined CBRE during its acquisition of UCR in 2015. Prior to UCR, Jack began his real estate career in specialty retail leasing and commercial sales in 1972 with real estate legend Henry S. Miller, Jr. There he worked on leasing assignments with Turtle Creek Village and Old Town Village, which were prototypes of denser urban centers such as Mockingbird Station and West Village. He was Henry S. Miller, Jr.’s assistant during the acquisition of Highland Park Village in 1975 and leased the project for several years.

Jack began moving toward the urban core when he established his own business in 1978. He moved his focus from specialty retail to a multi-tiered approach to real estate. He assembled five major blocks in Uptown, which included the land for One McKinney Place, The Residence on McKinney, and the Worthington. He was instrumental in assembling much of the land currently known as the State Thomas area in Uptown.

Jack brought Forest City to Dallas to broker the sale of the notable Mercantile Bank building, the Continental building and the historic Wilson Building as a downtown mixed-use complex. Jack’s Urban team has leased the retail component and is active in the retail reemergence of the downtown Central Business District (CBD), currently representing several developers assembling land in the CBD for new projects.

Originally from Arlington, Virginia, Jack received his Bachelor of Science degree from Vanderbilt University. He served in the Armed Forces and resigned from the Army with commendation as a Captain in the Corps of Engineers.
