Since 2016, the number of construction starts has been increasing following 4 years of steady decline: 391,500 units were started during the 12 months ending 30 April 2017, representing a year-on-year rise of 15%. The steady pace of sales and reservations for new homes reported by developers along with the upturn observed in the market for individual houses spurred on housing construction activity. According to the latest surveys of property developers, the balance of opinion for forecast construction starts suggests that construction will start on more than 400,000 new homes in 2017.
