Professional Experience

Jim Schneider has 25 years of experience and a demonstrated record of success developing and implementing facilities management solutions for clients. Currently, as a Facilities Management Director, Jim is responsible for the delivery of facilities management (FM) services across Sprint’s 18 million square foot portfolio including a diverse mix of asset types. Jim’s responsibilities include organizational leadership, strategic direction and oversight of FM programs such as energy and sustainability, operations management and innovation. The FM organization includes 120+ full-time employees, an operating budget of $54 million and capital and expense project management of an additional $3 million. Jim has been instrumental in the development of programs and initiatives to improve the FM business, such as Enterprise Asset Management Integration, Mobile Maintenance Cost Savings, Smart Energy & Building Analytics (SEBA), Asset Lifecycle Cross Functional Program and technology-driven process enhancements such as Incident Notification (INFORM!) and Equipment Condition Assessments (Site Tools/EM), as well as the development of numerous standards and processes.

Previously, as a Regional Facilties Manager, Jim was responsible for facilities management services at Sprint’s 4 million square foot headquarters campus in Overland Park, Kansas.  In this role, Jim provided leadership and oversight of a 42 member team of managers and technicians involved in various aspects of facilities management. His responsibilities included management of critical systems and infrastructure, utility plant operations, facilities services, janitorial services management, grounds maintenance and snow removal operations, as well as management of the national furniture maintenance and repair program. Financial responsibilities related to these services included a $10 million operating budget and over $6 million in capital and expense projects. With his experience developing and overseeing FM related infrastructure projects, Jim has a proven history of delivering on capital and expense project goals that exceed client expectations.

Jim assumed his role as Regional Facilities Manager in February 2009 when Sprint outsourced their real estate services to CBRE. During the implementation of this first generation outsourcing, Jim developed and implemented a new, more efficient organizational structure to improve operational management, eliminate third party vendors and reduce expenses at Sprint’s headquarters campus. This effort resulted in nearly $900 thousand in annualized savings to Sprint. Prior to this role, Jim worked directly for Sprint as the Facilities Engineering Manager. His knowledge of infrastructure systems and experience in affecting organizational change afforded him expanded responsibilities to include the central utility plant and landscape departments. While on the Sprint account, Jim reduced operating expenses, scoped and managed critical systems commissioning, implemented project plan review and labor reporting processes, re-negotiated service contracts resulting in $400 thousand in annual savings, participated in a national electrical services vendor consolidation initiative, developed a financial database to improve expense tracking and accountability, participated in the development of the CBRE/Sprint MSA scope of work relative to FM, managed the transition of technical lab locations, developed KPIs and standards, participated in group bid efforts for janitorial services, fire systems, critical power, and lawn/snow removal services, led a national Arc Flash Hazard initiative to bring sites into compliance with NFPA 70E and assumed responsibility for the furniture maintenance and repair program.

Previously, Jim worked for Johnson Controls on the Charles Schwab and Bank of America accounts. As the Facility Manager and Chief Engineer of Charles Schwab’s new IT research and development center, Jim was responsible for base building and tenant improvement construction oversight, developing the operating budget, conducting RFPs for various services, and staffing a brand new facility. Jim was later promoted to Regional Operations Manager where he led various initiatives to improve work order cycle times, customer satisfaction, the account scorecard, key performance indicators and technician labor efficiency. Jim also held an interim role as Account Manager. While on the Bank of America account, Jim was responsible for managing after-hours operations at the Concord Technology Center, a 1.2 million square foot, multi-building campus housing a 400 thousand square foot data center. He went on to lead operations of the bank’s Ellinwood complex, which included various administrative buildings including a call center.

During his 25 years in the FM field, Jim has held a number of tactical, regional and strategic roles that span numerous facility types and programs including data centers, medical research facilities, research and development labs, call centers and administrative facilities. He has supervised up to 10 direct reports and had responsibility for the performance of FM service delivery teams of up to 150 full-time employees and contractors.

He is regarded for his ability to manage highly technical environments and programs, interact with the client and successfully deliver national initiatives, while maintaining quality and customer satisfaction.
