Professional Experience

Andrew Norman brings over 30 years of professional real estate experience to his role as a Senior Director at CBRE. Andy has served a variety of corporate, governmental, and non-profit clients in providing real estate strategies, land use evaluation, transaction structuring, development advisory services, and governmental negotiations. Andy has coordinated complicated urban property dispositions such as the sale of the former Children’s Memorial Hospital campus in Lincoln Park and multiple urban land sites and historic buildings for the Sue Gin Estate and for the City of Chicago. Andy has also advised Sinai Health System in the redevelopment of Sinai’s hospital campus, created disposition strategies for the Illinois Medical District, and has led a variety of economic development and land use planning initiatives for public and educational institutions.

Andy came to CBRE through the acquisition of U.S. Equities Realty in 2014. He joined U.S. Equities in 2000 as Senior Development Manager for a new 1.1 million square foot world headquarters in downtown Detroit for Compuware Corporation. Andy advised Crate & Barrel on headquarters expansion strategies, the University of Chicago on development strategies for 53rd Street in Hyde Park, Amtrak on long range facility planning and surplus property disposition, Moody Bible Institute on strategic campus planning issues, and Waubonsee Community College on new campus development and surplus property disposition.

Andy brings a particular expertise to creating real estate strategies, identifying alternative courses of action to achieve operational requirements or leverage value from real estate, analyzing alternatives, and then executing on the selected strategy. His background in urban planning and public sector work gives him useful perspectives on urban property challenges, land use consulting, and public incentives negotiations. He has assisted municipal governments on a range of real estate issues, including Tax Increment Financing (TIF) for private redevelopment projects, zoning and economic development policy, and the sale of key public properties. Andy has additionally worked with family estates in evaluating real estate portfolios and crafting strategies that balance risk and return to the owners.

Prior to joining U.S. Equities, Andy was with the City of Chicago’s Department of Planning and Development for more than 10 years. He started as a City Planner and quickly rose to become a Deputy Commissioner where he was responsible for implementing the City’s economic development policy. During his time in charge of economic development, Andy managed projects that resulted in the creation and retention of more than 3,000 jobs and nearly $500 million in private investment.
