For every 100 jobs in Oregon’s growing technology industry, another 135 jobs are created, according to a recent IHS Markit study. The study, commissioned by the Technology Association of Oregon, found that Oregon’s tech industry employs more than 78,000 people directly across 3,400 businesses. The state’s total industry output is $25.4 billion.
The Oregon Employment Department forecasts a 20 percent growth in tech jobs from 2014 to 2024. The future is particularly promising for the computer systems design industry, with a projected growth rate of 40 percent.Our region, “the Silicon Forest,” boasts an increasing number of companies with expertise developing technology for regulated industries, and this extends beyond security and defense-related companies.
