Elite property Century Plaza Towers, located at 2029 and 2049 Century Park East in Century City, has earned $566,424.03 in rebates from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power’s (LADWP) Commercial Lighting Incentive Program (CLIP). Century Plaza Towers is among numerous LADWP commercial customers that are saving energy and money on their electric bills and operating costs by partnering with LADWP to reduce electrical energy use in their buildings.
The property, managed by CBRE, earned the rebates for a major lighting retrofit and upgrade at their vast 3 million square foot underground parking garage, which included replacing 2-lamp TP T8 25watt fixtures with new LED fixtures that come with integrated occupancy sensors and dimming controls. By participating in the program, Century Plaza Towers will save an estimated 2,454,351 kilowatt-hours (kWh) annually. This energy savings is equivalent to removing about 410 homes in Los Angeles from the electric grid, 270 automobiles from the road, or about 1,260 metric tons of avoided greenhouse gas emissions, per year.
“We are excited to partner with LADWP via the CLIP program, which has helped us reduce our electrical usage by 67 percent,” said Reneé Watkinson, Vice President, CBRE, Inc. for Century Plaza Towers. “This significant savings helps us with our ultimate goal of being a responsible corporate citizen and reducing our carbon footprint.”
Century Plaza Towers has had a long history of collaboration with LADWP through various other projects, which includes upgrading of chillers, mechanical equipment and a new central plant. LADWP’s programs help businesses reduce energy costs for long-term savings in building operation costs and increased comfort in the facility while benefiting the customer’s bottom line.
“LADWP takes great pride in presenting this sizable check to Century Plaza Towers for their great achievement, which will benefit the entire city through the subsequent reduction in overall energy demand and strain on the electrical grid,” said LADWP General Manager David H. Wright. “LADWP has significantly increased investment in energy efficiency and related programs, as it is a key element of the future sustainability of the city.”
Added Councilmember Paul Koretz, Los Angeles City Council 5th District, “I am pleased to join LADWP to recognize Century Plaza Towers, one of the largest commercial customers in my district for their commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency. Century Plaza Towers embraces what is possible in the fight against climate change. I am proud to work with LADWP to honor those who make significant changes that impact all Angelenos. LADWP’s Commercial Lighting Install Program is among the many important measures that we have available to our Los Angeles businesses to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and conserve limited natural resources. Rebate incentives from LADWP’s conservation programs help industry leaders make PRESS RELEASE valuable long-term investments make business sense. We value partners like Century Plaza Towers who serve as a model for environmental stewardship for the rest of Los Angeles.”
Councilmember Koretz is at the forefront in fighting climate change through his legislative policy.
