Chicago's largest commercial real estate firm will consolidate all suburban operations into new Workplace360 office
CHICAGO – November 30, 2016 – CBRE announced today that it will bring its highly successful Workplace360 initiative to the Chicago suburbs with the opening of a new, state-of-the-art 45,000-square-foot office in Oak Brook, Ill.
The move will bring together all of CBRE’s suburban employees under one roof in an effort to foster increased collaboration, improve productivity, better serve its clients and establish a world-class work environment aimed at recruiting and retaining the firm’s industry-leading talent.
The new office will be located on the top two floors of Oak Brook Pointe (700 Commerce Drive), where the firm currently leases 20,243 square feet. The new 45,000-square-foot space will also accommodate employees previously based at the firm’s Schaumburg (20 N. Martingale) and Bannockburn offices.
“We are excited for the collaborative culture our new office will create for our employees and for the opportunity to demonstrate a new way of working to our clients and the broader business community in suburban Chicago,” said Bill Wright, a CBRE managing director and co-project lead.
Workplace360 is CBRE’s leading-edge approach to workplace strategy designed to promote flexibility, mobility and productivity through technology-enabled, 100-percent free-address and paperless offices.
Based in part on research that shows that employees spend 50 percent of their time working with others, CBRE’s Workplace360 initiative provides a flexible way of working and a system of places, technologies and behaviors that allow for choice based on an employee’s changing needs throughout the day. A free-address and paperless environment with no assigned workstations, Workplace360 offices feature a variety of work settings – a balance of both collaborative and private spaces – from which employees can self-select depending on the project at hand. Enhanced technology that supports this mobile way of working is a core element of every Workplace360 office.
In October 2014, CBRE transitioned its downtown Chicago office to Workplace360 at 321 N. Clark St. A one-year post occupancy survey revealed positive results from employees, including:
90% of employees feel more productive in the new space
96% of employees are satisfied or extremely satisfied with the new working arrangement
89% of employees would not go back to the traditional way of working
87% agree that they have the ability to easily collaborate with colleagues more than they were able to before
95% say the new workplace represents a world-class organization, while 100% agree that clients are interested in the new work environment
“This strategy has always been the long-term vision for all of our Chicago-area operations,” said Chris Zubel, another CBRE managing director and co-project lead. “We have already seen how much of a boon this has been for our business in the city and we are confident we will see the same results in this new office, which will allow the collective talent and knowledge of all of our suburban professionals to interact and collaborate in an amazing workplace environment.”
CBRE’s Gary Fazzio, vice chairman, Jon Springer, executive vice president, and Paul Diederich, senior vice president represented the firm in the transaction. Jeff Mann, senior vice president with CBRE, represented the landlord in the transaction.
As it did with its downtown office, CBRE will leverage its industry-leading Workplace Strategy and Project Management teams to implement Workplace360 from initiation through move-in. CBRE has opened 34 Workplace360 offices around the world, with another 15 in development.
“From productivity and wellness, to engagement and recruitment, the workplace directly contributes to business results. Better business performance begins with better workplace performance, and at CBRE, we practice what we preach,” said Cicily Dostalek, program manager for CBRE’s Workplace360 initiative. “By driving greater collaboration and productivity, and improving our business agility, our suburban Chicago Workplace360 office will be an environment where our employees will feel engaged and thrive.”
