NEW YORK, NY (November 17, 2016)—CBRE Group Inc. Tri-State Women’s Network hosted Julie Scelfo, author of the new book “The Women Who Made New York” on Wednesday, November 16, at its annual fall book event. Ms. Scelfo discussed the female trailblazers detailed in the book, including CEO of CBRE Tri-State, Mary Ann Tighe.
“One of the great delights of New York is its embrace of a good idea,” Tighe is quoted as saying in the book. “You show up with a good idea or a talent, and New York will find a use for both.”
“The Women Who Made New York” tells the story of the women whose vital contributions helped make New York the epicenter of the world. From icons to politicos, artists to wisecrackers, mythmakers to builders, the women who helped to build New York City into a world capital led lives that crackle with energy and verve, captured in the short biographies that make up the book.

Author Julie Scelfo is a former staff writer for The New York Times and a frequent contributor to the paper, where her stories about how we live routinely appear in the Times’s most-emailed list. Prior to joining the Times in 2007, Scelfo was a correspondent at Newsweek, where she covered breaking news and wrote about society and human behavior.
Mary Ann Tighe is the Chief Executive Officer of CBRE New York Tri-State, a region of 2,500 employees. She has been at the forefront of the transformation of New York’s skyline during her 30 years in the industry, from the revitalization of Times Square and the rebirth of Downtown to the westward expansion of Midtown’s central business district. In the course of her career, Tighe has been responsible for more than 96 million square feet of commercial transactions, and her deals have anchored more than 13.7 million square feet of new construction in New York—believed to be a record in commercial brokerage. She was the first woman to become Chairman of the Real Estate Board of New York in the organization’s 114-year history, and she has been named to Crain’s New York Business Most Powerful Women in New York every year since the listing was inaugurated.
The CBRE Women’s Network was formed in 2000 and has more than 3,000 members from across the organization, including the company’s three regions and every business line. The group’s mission is to “Promote the Success of Women,” guided by three key principles: Growth, Connection and Mentorship.
