United Way of Salt Lake and Rio Tinto Kennecott Receive 2013 RISE Awards
Salt Lake City – November 11, 2013—On November 5, 2013 the Salt Lake City office of CBRE held its first annual Market Outlook Event. The event featured a keynote address from a renowned global economist, the presentation of community awards, and several breakout sessions highlighting commercial real estate trends and forecasts. Roughly 200 professionals and clients attended the “invitation only” event.
Raymond G. Torto, PhD, the keynote speaker, addressed commercial real estate trends and the economy from both a local and a national perspective. Dr. Torto, who is the Global Chairman of Research at CBRE, highlighted Utah’s burgeoning tech sector as a key reason the local market fared so well during the past several years. Torto said, “Salt Lake has done very well and grown better than the rest of the country; it is ranked fifth in the nation in terms of job growth”. He also stated that he expects the state to hold a strong national position in the near term.
Mark Bouchard, Senior Managing Director of the Salt Lake office of CBRE, stated that “though the tech sector is just one of many successful industries within the state, it has a major impact on the economy as a whole. One example of this impact is the direct correlation between the growth in the tech sector and the demand for commercial real estate. Rising tides raise all ships, and the local tech sector is evidence of this.”
The event also included breakout sessions led by local and national experts covering the following topics: Workplace Strategies and Occupier Trends, Capital Markets, Brokerage Trends and Forecast, and Economic Development.
At the conclusion of the event, RISE Awards were presented to local organizations that exhibit CBRE’s driving values – Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellence.
United Way of Salt Lake (UWSL) was awarded the 2013 Community RISE Award for its outstanding service to the local community. UWSL recently raised $15 million in their “Changing the Odds” campaign and is ranked among the top 2% of 1,200 United Way affiliates worldwide for business performance.
Rio Tinto Kennecott was recognized as the 2013 Innovation RISE Award recipient for exceptional innovation in real estate development. Through its Daybreak Development, Kennecott has developed a sustainable residential and commercial community unlike anything else in the state. For nine straight years the company has been a market leader with a 13% market share of all new homes sold in the Salt Lake Valley.
“The purpose of the Market Outlook Event is to provide meaningful information to our clients and associates”, stated Bouchard. “It is our intent to hold this event on an annual basis. We hope that those in attendance were able to take away some new insights that will add value to their organizations and improve their strategies going forward.”
