Former JPB executive Tom Watson hired to lead expansion
Tallahassee, FL – December 7, 2015 – CBRE Group Inc., the world’s largest commercial real estate services firm, is planting a flag in Northwest Florida. The company, which currently has six offices across the state, has hired Tom Watson, former CEO of JPB Commercial Real Estate Advisors, as Vice President, to build business in the Panhandle region, a roughly 200-mile area anchored by the dynamic State Capital region in the east and economically diverse, waterfront city of Pensacola in the west. CBRE, Florida’s top ranking commercial real estate firm based on size and deal volume, according to the Florida Business Journals' annual ranking, will announce its new Northwest Florida office location in early 2016.
“Demand for commercial real estate services in Northwest Florida is robust as a result of the area’s well-established tourism sector, vibrant retail segment, strong aerospace/defense industry, growing manufacturing base, and of course, active office market around the state capital,” said Mary Jo Eaton, President, CBRE Florida and Latin America. “Tom brings two decades of experience and a stellar track record to CBRE.”
Added William Gulliford, Managing Director of CBRE’s Northwest Florida and Jacksonville offices, “Northwest Florida is a strategic location for many companies because of its coastal access, well-developed transportation infrastructure and proximity to several large southeastern cities. Establishing a permanent presence in this market, with a seasoned professional such as Tom leading the way, is a natural move for CBRE to better serve its existing and future clients in the region.”
Since 2000, Mr. Watson has been involved in transactions valued in excess of $150 million in Northwest Florida across all property types. As CEO of JPB Commercial since 2010, he was responsible for driving the strategic growth of the company, managing its team of sales agents, and handling the group’s major client relationships. Concurrently serving as Vice President of the Southeast Region for JPB Commercial’s parent company (JPB Partners) since 2004, Mr. Watson acquired, managed and executed multiple land development projects in the Northwest Florida region. Prior to that, he was a development principal and sales executive for St. Joe Company, where he spearheaded numerous shopping center and mixed-use developments.
Mr. Watson also ran the consulting division of Jamison Research in Atlanta, focusing on commercial property acquisition and development, due diligence and portfolio strategy for a “who’s who” list of institutional investors, developers, lenders and REITs. His work ranged from Atlanta to Texas, from the Carolinas to Florida, where he was involved in an advisory capacity in over $1 billion worth of development and acquisitions in the latter half of the 1990s.
Joining Mr. Watson to grow CBRE’s presence in Northwest Florida is Philip Sherrill, Senior Associate. Also a former JPB professional, Mr. Sherrill has 25 years of experience in commercial real estate brokerage and property management throughout the Florida Gulf Coast region. His specializes in office and retail properties.
