Tom Matthews joined CBRE in 2007 in the Project Management group and transferred to the Technical Services division of Asset Services in 2009. Tom’s strengths are facility operations, energy management and building controls, capital project management, and vendor contract negotiations. In his current role, Tom provides operational support, personnel development, and project management for the Charlotte Technical Services division that includes 15 maintenance technicians serving an average of 8 million square feet of property. In this role Tom provides invaluable technical expertise and guidance to our property management team and clients alike on capital planning, energy management, best practices, and modernization of building systems. Prior to his current role with Technical Services, Tom was Chief Engineer for NASCAR Plaza, a high-rise office building that is connected to NASCAR Hall of Fame and a convention center ballroom. He oversaw the commissioning and turnover of the building from initial construction while construction continued on the adjoining properties. During his tenure with CBRE Project Management group, he managed capital improvements, construction projects, and personnel move coordination on the Duke Energy corporate facilities account.
Prior to joining CBRE, Tom worked for Simon Property Group as Operations Manager of SouthPark Mall, a 1.7 million square foot high-end retail mall with such notable tenants as Nieman-Marcus and Nordstrom. He was with SouthPark Mall for 10 years through four different companies and an 8-year $360 million expansion. Tom managed a staff of 65 people plus contracted vendors that supported all operations of the mall and he also served as tenant construction coordinator for all retail tenant upfits. Tom has an additional 5 years of experience on class A office properties as a Facility Manager with both Bissell Company and Binswanger Southern.
