Professional Experience

Sam Avery currently leads the teams supporting Critical Environments Operations, Maintenance, and Design for CBRE GCS on the Comerica Bank account.  He has over 25 years of experience in the design, installation, testing, commissioning and operation of complex industrial and mission critical power distribution systems.  As a Journeyman Electrician, BSEE/PE, and MBA, Sam combines a deep technical focus and business background to drive maximum uptime reliability in operations and life cycle management of critical power, HVAC, mechanical, fire suppression, and building management systems. 

Sam began his career as an industrial electrician, developed an expert knowledge of critical power distribution systems as a NETA certified Senior Test Engineer with Northern Electrical Testing, Inc., and has since held increasing leadership positions supporting critical operations and engineering for Visteon, ProQuest, and CBRE. He has a BSEE degree from Michigan Technological University, an MBA degree from the University of Phoenix, and holds Professional Engineering and Journeyman Electrician licenses in the State of Michigan.

  • Developed and implemented a best in class preventive / predictive maintenance and operational process for Comerica Bank's TIER III Data Centers and critical environments.  Installed 2N UPS Power distribution design in an active Data Center environment.  Risk mitigation and uptime achievements drive 'Exceeding Expectations' rating for client KPI’s.
  • Full responsibility for $22MM ProQuest world headquarters construction project; delivered on time and at budget.
  • Key negotiator; secured two Michigan Economic Growth Authority (MEGA) High Tech Tax Credits; $20MM in tax savings over 12 years.  Involvement included negotiations and securing legislative approvals.
  • Drove a design/build project for $2MM regional data center; negotiated a lease restructure netting $5MM.
  • Lead engineer on the construction, installation and commissioning of the 120kV power substations at the new McNamara Terminal at Detroit Metropolitan Airport.
