Matt Toner is CBRE's Managing Director of Smart Buildings and IoT. He is responsible for developing and delivering a new generation of client solutions; combining rising capabilities in industry technology, occupant experience and building operations. Matt's personal focus areas include strategic solutioning, future visioning, global partner development, and operational investment.
He is a member of the global Facility Management platform team, executive advisory board for CBRE's Digital & Technology line of business, and the jointly-held CBRE | Johnson Controls Building Innovation Lab.
From 2013-2017, Matt led the CBRE Institute, a global advisory platform focused on the evolution and advancement of the corporate real estate industry. The CBRE Institute is responsible for custom research and consultation with industry leaders innovating the delivery of real estate services and management of built environments.
Matt brings unique perspective and experience from prior roles as a Director at the White House National Security Council, specializing in the coordination of federal disaster response and recovery programs; and as Chief of Staff to the GSA's Office of Emergency Response and Recovery, specializing in aligning private sector support to the Federal interagency community. He has worked across all branches of government, in nearly every state, and with multiple foreign countries.
His experience includes prior real estate advisory roles at CBRE, legal advisory at Kilpatrick Stockton LLP, and construction advisory at Ernst & Young. Matt is an author, speaker and member of multiple real estate and technology industry associations.
He is a graduate of Georgia Tech's Schools of Architecture and Public Policy. He lives in Atlanta, GA with his wife and daughter.
