Professional Experience

As Director, Transaction Management in CBRE's New York Transaction Management Hub, John Morrill is responsible for providing real estate strategic planning and transaction management services to corporations, municipalities and governmental authorities.

Prior to joining CBRE, Mr. Morrill was head of real estate for Consolidated Edison where he managed a 4.4 million-square-foot portfolio of commercial property and completed several significant dispositions and acquisitions. Dispositions included one of the largest land sales in Manhattan, 8.9 acres of land just south of the United Nations to Fisher Brothers and Solow Development including negotiation of a risk transfer agreement with AIG and TRC Companies for the demolition and environmental remediation of the properties. Acquisitions included identification and purchase of several land parcels between one and four acres each in Manhattan and the Boroughs. Subtenants included RCN Companies and JetBlue’s national headquarters.

Prior to Con Edison, Mr. Morrill was a Property Manager and Site Development Director for Sprint, for the build out of the New York metropolitan area and the northeast region. Mr. Morrill also has prior real estate experience working in the public sector where he completed leasing assignments totaling more than two million square feet of office, retail and industrial space and managed a portfolio of more than 100 commercial leases.

  • 100,000-square-foot lease renewal and expansion for the Queens District Attorney’s Office at 80-02 Kew Gardens Road in Forest Hills, Queens.

  • 276,000-square-foot lease for the New York City Department of Investigation at 180 Maiden Lane.

  • 304,000-square-foot lease for the New York City Emergency Management at 930 Flushing Avenue in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

  • 260,000-square-foot lease renewal for the New York City Financial Information Services Agency and a new lease for the Office of Payroll Administration at 450 West 33rd Street in Manhattan.

  • 230,000-square-foot lease renewal and expansion at 30-30 Thomson Avenue in Long Island City for the New York City Department of Design and Construction.

  • 500,000-square-foot lease renewal and expansion for the New York City Corporation Counsel and other various Agencies located at 100 Church Street.

  • Renegotiation of a lease agreement between the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey and Con Edison to facilitate the reconstruction of an electric substation at Seven World Trade Center that was destroyed on September 11th. Rebuilding included negotiation of a $50 million construction contract with Tishman Construction, $10 million in design contracts, and reciprocal easement agreements between Con Edison and Silverstein Properties for the construction of the Seven World Trade Center office tower above the substation.

  • Sale of 8.9 acres of land partially occupied by a Con Edison steam generating station, consisting of five city blocks (over five million developable square feet) along First Avenue between East 35th and East 41st Streets. The contract of sale included a separate agreement for demolition, remediation and environmental risk transfer insurance.

  • 130,000-square-foot sublease of Con Edison’s Queens Headquarters at 118-35 Queens Boulevard in Forest Hills, Queens.
