David started his career with MedStar Union Memorial Hospital as an electrical contractor in 1995. Over the next 4 years he oversaw the electrical installation and maintenance of the security system, pneumatic tube system, fire alarm system, and performed all electrical renovations. In 1999 he accepted the position of Electrical Supervisor at MUMH. In this new role he was responsible for all elevators, generators, FA, Security systems, electrical distribution and Joint commission documentation.
From 1999 to 2006 his responsibilities increased to managing the maintenance department, infrastructure upgrade and assisted in development, design and oversight of construction. Infrastructure upgrades included 19 elevator modernizations, chiller replacement, installation of a Medical Waster sterilizer, 5-40,000 CFM AHU, cooling towers plus assisted with design and oversight of $50 million dollars in patient care floor renovations.
In 2007 he was promoted to Maintenance Manager and 2010 to Director of Facilities. During his tenure as Director he worked closely with an energy consultant and reduced our energy consumption by 12% the first year. We are still seeing significant energy saving to date with an increase in our energy star rating by 19 points. During this period he has reduced MedStar’s operating budget by 22% while increasing the Employee Satisfaction Score from 48 in 2006 to 92 approval rating in 2012.
During his time in this department MedStar has had 5 successful TJC inspections, the last 2 inspection there were no document deficiencies noted during the inspection.
