    Hubbell expanding at Grimes distribution centerStrong demand for multiuse warehouse and industrial space combined with low vacancy rates has prompted Hubbell Realty Co. to start construction on its fourth 110,000-square-foot building in its Grimes Distribution Center. CBRE|Hubbell Commercial Vice President Morey Knutsen said occupancy at the three other same-size buildings that the company has completed is at roughly 94 percent, with 20,000 square feet available in the most recently completed structure. "There is strong demand on the part of larger users" who need a minimum of 50,000 square feet, he said. "With vacancy still hovering in the 3 to 4 percent range, there are few options for any size user."

    Apartment rents have risen 5 to 10 percent in Greater Des Moines CBRE|Hubbell Commercial unveiled its annual commercial real estate market surveys Tuesday with some news that landlords and renters have known for some time: Rents are rising. But help could be on the way as Greater Des Moines girds for an additional 4,000 units in the next few years, The Des Moines Register reported. The reports were presented to an audience of bankers, investors, developers and public officials and a panel discussion featuring CBRE|Hubbell Commercial market specialists was moderated by Register reporter Joel Aschbrenner.

    Des Moines area apartment rental rates surgeHere’s something for renters to gripe about: Des Moines area apartment rates surged in 2015 — and not just by a few bucks.


    The average rental rate for a one-bedroom apartment increased 7.7 percent. Rent for efficiencies, or studios, increased 10.3 percent. For larger units the increase was between 5 and 7 percent, according to an annual survey released Tuesday by West Des Moines-based CBRE/Hubbell Commercial.
