Professional Experience

As Senior Managing Director, Jim Carris is a member of the Chicago Regional Executive Management Team, and co-leads the Occupier Practice, including Tenant Representation, Transaction Consulting and Global Corporate Services. He also oversees the Chicago and Bannockburn offices for the firm. With over 23 years of experience in real estate, and backed by a Juris Doctorate (JD) and a Masters in Business Administration (Executive MBA, with Honors,) Jim has  successfully lead integrated multi-disciplined teams in his commitment to providing our clients unparalleled, world class service. Skilled at leveraging the firm’s platform, core strengths and resources, and managing top-performing, cross-functional teams, Jim is  known for his solid record of leadership, and achieving exemplary strategic, operational and investment benefit on behalf of CBRE’s large and small clients alike.

Prior to joining CBRE, in 2011, Jim was Senior Vice President / National Director at Jones Lang LaSalle specializing in account and program management including the oversight of accounts, transactions, leasing and project/capital investments for international corporate clients including HSBC and Shell Oil. He was also a member of the firm’s Integrated Program Management Advisory Board, helping to develop improvements and best practices in the area of IPM.

Prior to joining Jones Lang LaSalle, Mr. Carris oversaw the operations of the global real estate function for BP’s former chemical subsidiary, Innovene, overseeing numerous office, industrial and land transactions and operations in Europe, Asia and the United States. Prior to joining Innovene, he managed the reuse and redevelopment of several refineries, terminals and other large contaminated properties for BP, resulting in award winning multi-use projects including office, retail and industrial developments. As part of his responsibilities at BP, he was also project executive for BP’s suburban Chicago 640 acre multi-use commercial development, Cantera. Prior to joining BP, he held various leadership roles including practicing law with the Amoco Oil Company and Homart Development Company.    ​​
