Americas Summit 2013

Thank you for making ideas happen at this year’s Americas Summit! It was a fantastic event with nearly 2,500 clients, sponsors and CBRE professionals coming together for two days of inspiration and innovation.
If you’d like to catch one of the breakout sessions you missed, or if you want to re-visit any of the presentations, the videos are all here. We took a lot of great photos and you can see the gallery here.
And finally, we couldn’t put together an event like this without the generous support of the more than 75 sponsors who chose to join us at Americas Summit, and contribute to making it a top-notch, not-to-be-missed showcase of the very best in the business.

Americas Summit Departures

Dr. Condoleezza Rice

Dr. Condoleezza Rice
to Kick Off Americas Summit

Learning. Growing. Inspiring. That’s how we at CBRE become better every day. At Americas Summit, we will once again be inspired as Dr. Condoleezza Rice takes the stage as keynote speaker at the Opening General Session.

A political scientist and diplomat, Condoleezza Rice served as the 66th United States Secretary of State under President George W. Bush and was the first female African-American to serve in that post.

Throughout her political career, Dr. Rice shaped U.S. foreign policy and advised the nation’s leaders during some of the most turbulent world events of our time, including the collapse of the Soviet Union, the 9/11 attacks and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Serving at the highest levels of government, Dr. Rice approached leadership in America and abroad with strong personal conviction.

Condoleezza Rice is currently a professor of Political Economy in the Graduate School of Business at the Hoover Institution and a professor of Political Science at Stanford University. She is also a founding partner of Rice Hadley Gates, LLC.

Join us at Americas Summit to hear Dr. Rice share her experiences as the nation’s chief diplomat and her strategies for engaging on the World Stage.

Daniel Pink

Daniel Pink
to Set the Tone for Day Two

Day Two of Americas Summit is all about what’s next. An agenda filled with creativity, evolution and exploration is sure to spark new thoughts. One of the world’s leading business minds, Daniel Pink will lead off the day. You’ll hear his forward-thinking views on creating a culture of innovation where new ideas and breakthroughs happen more often…and deliver big results.

Mr. Pink is the author of five best-selling books about the changing world of work, including the long-running New York Times best seller A Whole New Mind and the #1 New York Times best seller Drive. His articles on business and technology have appeared in many publications, including The New York Times, Harvard Business Review, Fast Company and Wired.

He has provided analysis of business trends on CNN, CNBC, ABC, NPR and other networks in the U.S. and abroad. He also advises both Fortune 100 companies and startups on recruiting, innovation and work practices. In addition, from 1995-1997, Mr. Pink worked in the White House where he served as chief speechwriter for Vice President Al Gore.

Thursday afternoon features a series of one-hour sessions on a variety of topics including:

It’s often the size of the deal that makes it significant. But it’s the deal making that truly sets it above the rest. How all the pieces came together and the tremendous amount of creativity it took to get the deal done. That’s what you’ll find at Hudson Yards. The underutilized, 26-acre section of New York City’s far west side is undergoing a major transformation, creating a new neighborhood with upscale residential, retail and office space. Hear from those involved as they explain how this multi-faceted deal took shape and reshaped the marketplace.

Come learn how Brokerage, Global Corporate Services, Capital Markets, Project Management, the Life Sciences Practice Group and other experts in the CBRE Platform worked together to win a large complicated assignment, and then deliver an incredible result —one that no one else in the industry could—for two clients. How did the CBRE teams manage conflicts of interest in this major transaction?  How did the two CBRE teams uncover issues in their diagnoses that our competitors didn’t find—and our clients didn’t see?

You’ve come a long way from pounding the pavement and making in-person cold calls, to touring the market using your iPad. Technology made this possible. It has changed a great deal about our business and will continue to shape our future. Yet, best-in-class brokerage is still largely based on developing and nurturing client relationships and delivering innovative solutions that create value for our clients. Take a tour back in time as we explore the progression of the real estate industry with Global President of Transaction Services Jack Durburg, who will facilitate a lively dialog between Vice Chairman Darla Longo, a 30-year brokerage veteran, and Executive Vice President Ben Friedland, a thought leader in the use of technology, about what has really changed in our business, what hasn’t and what the future has in store for us.

The workplace today is being radically reconsidered to meet the needs of a changing workforce and more demanding business environment. Organizations are abandoning one-size-fits-all solutions in favor of more tailored solutions that reflect their culture and enable their employees to be more productive and engaged. Georgia Collins, a global leader in CBRE’s Workplace Strategy team, will discuss what is on the leading edge through a tour of compelling workplace experiences around the world. This will culminate in a discussion with Lew Horne, around CBRE’s new flagship office in Downtown Los Angeles.

The healthcare system is facing an onslaught of challenges and rapid changes as it adapts to the rules and regulations of the Affordable Healthcare Act, new requirements for Medicare and Medicaid, and unsure stability in the economy. These conditions have created a world of uncertainty for medical care providers, changing their demand for real estate. Join CBRE healthcare real estate expert Craig Beam and industry leaders for an in-depth look at trends that are transforming the ways healthcare companies use real estate.

From the time a product is manufactured, ordered and arrives at your door, the package has traveled through an interconnected supply chain, using many components of transportation and passing through a number of facilities along the way. Take a virtual trip as we trace one product through the global supply chain process, and learn from experts in logistics and supply chain management about all the points on the journey where our expertise in real estate comes into play.

Economies are more connected than ever before. What happens in one part of the world has ripple effects in boardrooms around the globe. Join Chris Ludeman, President, Americas Capital Markets, as he delves inside the mind of the CEO. This interactive roundtable discussion will examine how the C-Suite views today’s global capital markets, evaluates and weighs investment options and uses this information in their business decision-making process.

The chime of the cash register is fading—replaced by the click of a mouse—as more consumers are turning to the Internet for online shopping. The death of brick and mortar stores has been predicted for years, but they are still alive. New omnichannel strategies are saving them from extinction, according to Forrester Principal Analyst Sucharita Mulpuru, who will describe how physical stores can survive and thrive with a successful omnichannel strategy that meets shoppers’ expectations for convenience, price and value.

Afterburner is a team of real fighter pilots from around the globe who will help you improve execution and lead more effectively. During this seminar, you will delve into principles introduced in the “zero tolerance for error” world of military fighter pilots, experiencing the powerful methodology and processes of Flawless Execution℠. You’re fighting for market share. You’re fighting to stay on top. This team understands how critical effective leadership skills are, and will put you in full fighter form every day!
